Why We Love Ponyo

The story of Ponyo (directed by Hayao Miyazki)  is for you if you’re looking for a sweet story of a girl who does anything to live her life, her way. I absolutely loved this film. The characters are loveable, the storyline is certainly one-of-a-kind, and there’s always a new adventure around the corner for main characters Ponyo and Soskuke. If you love magic, adventure, and want to view the world with that special childlike wonder for roughly an hour and a half, Ponyo is streaming on Netflix now!

Why is Ponyo So Popular?

It’s easy to fall in love with! The characters are the cutest, drawn with just enough detail to give them all their own distinct style. While we might not always agree with their motivations (looking at you driving, mom), Ponyo certainly has us laughing each time she learns or explores something new! 

It’s also incredibly uplifting and focused on positive outcomes. It leaves anything dark or negative to some of the other incredible Studio Ghibli films, and tells the story of a little girl with the best intentions, who just wants to live her authentic life! Something all of us can relate to. I especially loved her sense of adventure, her willingness to try new things, help other people, and learn as much as she can.
